Organized by the European Commission DG GROWTH Tourism Unit took place last 5th April 2016 in Brussels.
The conference focused on two priority subjects for EU tourism:
· improving the business environment to attract more investment and to better use EU funds to boost the competitiveness of the sector
· raising awareness of the investment needs to boost skills and mobility of the tourism workforce
The high level event showed the importance of raising tourism in the EU Agenda by counting with the participation of Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Mrs. Elżbieta Bieńkowska, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility Mrs. Marianne Thyssen and Commissioner for Regional Policy Mrs. Corina Crețu. Also 5 Members of the European Parliament Michael Cramer, Chairman of the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN); István Ujhelyi, Vice-Chair of the TRAN Committee responsible for the Task Force on Tourism; Isabella De Monte (TRAN); Ana-Claudia Tapardel (TRAN); and Cláudia Monteiro de Aguiar (TRAN), reflected the strong commitment of the European Parliament with regards to endowing tourism the importance it deserves.
