Over 3 billion people depend directly on our seas for their livelihoods. But in reality, all of us depend on the ocean: for our water, our food, our climate and our air.

Seas and oceans enrich our identity, ensure our wellbeing and sustain a large part of the economy.

Human action has left our ocean heavily affected by pollution, overexploitation, coastal degradation and global warming. This has severe consequences for all.

The Permanent Secretariat of NECSTouR will intervene at the Round Table "Blue and Green Growth - Green Tourism - Green Mobility in the Sea and in the Territory"

The event is organised on the 29th of June in Banyuls-sur-Mer, which is part of the Eastern-Pyrénées with the support of the Occitanie Region.

"Promoting European Sustainable Tourism for All" at the European Parliament

NECSTouR took the debate about the promotion of an European Sustainable Tourism for all at the European Parliament on the 20th of June though a well participated thematic public conference.

As MEP De Monte stated on her introductory remarks, the goal of this event was to animate a debate and to provide suggestions to the main European and Regional policy-makers on such an importan topic.

Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean: State of Play and Strategic Directions

Although tourism is a vector for economic growth -representing 11% of the region’s GDP and 11% of jobs- it also brings with it a depletion of natural resources, an increase in pollution and a deterioration of cultural treasures, not to mention income distribution that does not always benefit local populations. The United Nations’ declaration of 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism provides an opportunity to put several projects into action.
