UNWTO Students League is Recruiting Teams for its Global Competition on Sustainable Tourism

NECSTouR academic members are open to invite students to participate in this unique opportunity from The World Tourism Organisation of the United Nations. The deadline for the application process is January 15.

Focus on Intergroups on the European Parliament

Ursula von der Leyen new commission is taking office on December 1st. As commissioners start naming their staff, the focus is now on the intergroups of the European Parliament, soon to be voted by political groups.

Ask your MEPs to support and vote for the Sustainable Tourism Intergroup.

Exchange of views on Tourism with UNWTO at the European Parliament

 

MEP István Ujhelyi, Vice-Chair of TRAN Committee of the European Parliament invited Ms Alessandra Priante, Director, Regional Department for Europe of UNWTO for an exchange of views on the challenges and tasks we have in Tourism in 2020.

Ms Priante will introduce the UNWTO policies and programme for Europe.

The event will be in Brussels on 8th January between 16.15 – 18.00 in ASP 3H1.

 

NECSTouR Permanent Secretary will attend this event.

Every year in June, the European Commission (Directorate-General for Energy and EASME) organises the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) – the biggest event dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe.

UNWTO - Transport-related CO2 Emissions of the Tourism Sector

The number of tourists travelling across borders is expected to reach 1.8 billion a year by 2030, according to the latest UNWTO predictions. This will be alongside a further 15.6 billion domestic tourist arrivals. Such growth will bring many opportunities, including socioeconomic development and job creation. At the same time, however, greenhouse gas emissions linked to tourism-related transport are also rising, challenging the tourism sector’s ambition to meet the targets of the Paris Agreement.

UNWTO - Global Report on Women in Tourism – Second Edition

The Global Report on Women in Tourism 2010 provided the first look and a baseline study on the situation of women in the tourism sector. This second edition of the report considers how the situation has evolved since then and provides a thorough assessment of tourism’s contribution towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 – to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Västra Götaland Defends Sustainable Tourism as a Catalyst for Regional Development during OECD Workshop
