The region of Flanders is focusing its efforts on recover the tourism ecosystem as follows:

The Plan

Dedicated support measures for the social tourism sector for an amount of EUR 28.5 million.

One part of the budget, around 16,4 million euros will be dedicated to tourism for all sectors.

Another 12.1 million euros goes to youth tourism, because they are also under heavy pressure due to the loss of school trips, for example. This extra support not only gives tourism entrepreneurs a strong boost, it also helps every resident to be a visitor this summer and to enjoy the solidarity hospitality in Flanders Holiday Region.

The Actions

Tourism safe restart. On June 2, the National Security Council gave the green light for a safe restart of tourism activities in Flanders. The Flanders Holiday Destination 2.0 partnership relaunched the tourist season on June 5, together with the Flemish minister of tourism.

Research shows that 80% of the Belgians prefer to avoid crowded places. The restart will be done via a well thought-out visitor management plan, to ensure an optimal distribution of visitors in time and space as essential for a qualitative and safe tourist experience.

As such, Flanders launched the YouFlanders application, a handy mobile application for tourist operators and visitors to enable a carefree holiday in Flanders. The application gives an overview of all tourist attractions and services in their neighbourhood or at their destination.

Tourists and visitors will find all the information that is needed to enjoy their holidays with peace of mind: the applications gives an answer to questions such as: which (extra) safety measures apply? What should I pay attention to? Is it busy there right now? What are quieter alternatives?

For the tourist entrepreneurs, the application provides direct access to indicate the necessary information about their tourist offer and the crowded indication itself.
