Travel to Tomorrow - Flanders' Flourishing Destinations

Long before the current health crisis we started in Flanders, together with our public and private stakeholders, a co-creative  reflection process about the future we wish for tourism.

This journey brought us to the fundamental understanding that we no longer see tourism as goal in itself, but as a means to allow our community and destination to flourish.

By focusing on the positive power of tourism, we want to create added value for all players: the entrepreneurs, the residents, the visitors and the destination itself.

The shift we want to make is one from "profit-driven tourism" to "values-driven tourism". In a flourishing destination, we want to go for impactful experiences that enrich, inspire and ensure greater well-being for visitors, residents and entrepreneurs. Ensuring connection between people, places and suitable activities is elementary.

We cannot direct or guarantee those impactful experiences, but we can encourage and facilitate them by creating the right conditions.

It is important to understand and tell the unique story of the place and of its creators. In Flanders, we choose to approach these stories thematically through five unique themes, which tie in with our DNA: Flanders Natural Heritage Experience; Flanders Cycling Country; Culinary Heritage and finally everyone deserves a holiday (the network of 2,000 social and tourism partners that endeavor to eliminate holiday thresholds and to realize the basic right of holiday for everyone).
