A unique competition in Wallonia. The Walloon public administration (of Belgium) organized, with the support of the Digital Agency, a competition, the Geochallenge, aimed at developing innovative services and solutions (web solutions, mobile applications, etc.) based on the use and promotion of the Walloon geographic information contained in the Geoportal of Wallonia, for the benefit of mobility, the environment and natural heritage, the economy and social action.

The GeoChallenge was open to Walloon and Brussels SMEs, the academic world (universities, colleges, etc.) and the associative sector. The "environment and natural heritage" challenge was organized by the Walloon Ministry of the Environment and the Commissariat général au Tourisme (Walloon administration of tourism). The aim is to facilitate and encourage hiking (foot-hiking, cycling, mountain biking) in Wallonia, for example through the communication of information relating to heritage (natural, historical, gastronomic), access to infrastructure and information on prevention.

The winners were given € 15,000 to develop their applications for the benefit of the Walloons !

For the “environment and natural heritage” challenge, 3 projects were selected :

- Geo-Quiz: discover the Walloon heritage ! Flagworlds sprl - Corporate world
- Help with the organization of sports event routes Champs-Libres Coopérative - Business world
- Small heritage in crowdsourcing mode GAL Meuse @ Campaigns - Associative sector.
