The Eurostat Regional Yearbook 2021 has been published. Despite the tremendous impact that the Covid-19 is having on the Tourism sector, it reveals how 7 NECSTouR Members Regions - Canary Islands, , Coastal Croatia*, Ile-de-France, Catalonia, Andalucia, Veneto and Balearic Islands - are confirmed in the top-7 of the EU Regions with the highest number of Tourist nights. The Region of Occitanie is also in the top-10. In total, 15 of the top 20 EU-27 Tourist NUTS2 Regions are members of NECSTouR.
Despite all the travel limitations suffered during 2020, the most touristic Regions of NECSTouR confirm their international vocation. From the top-13 of the EU Regions with the highest number of nights spend by non-residents, 12 are member of NECSTouR: again, the most touristic regions mentioned above, plus Valencia Region, Tirol, Tuscany, Lombardy, Lazio.
Meanwhile, none of the top-5 EU Regions where tourism density in 2019 stood at more than 10 000 nights per km² is member of our network.
Despite the tremendous impact that the Covid-19 is having on the Tourism sector, this data confirm how NECSTouR cover all the most touristic Regions of Europe. They also reveals a strong international vocation of our most touristic regions and a good balance between a high number of visitors and tourism density.
