First Cultural Routes Advisory Forum

In the framework of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on the Cultural Routes, the first Cultural Routes Advisory Forum to take place.

Since the 1st January 2011, The Enlarged Partial Agreement (EPA) on the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe came into force with the two main objectives of contributing to the promotion of European identity and citizenship through the knowledge and awareness of Europe's common heritage and developing cultural links and dialogue in Europe as well as other countries and regions.

This two major objectives will be emphasised during the forum, gathering all stakeholders of existing cultural routes, as well as culture and tourism experts, as they place cultural cooperation, cultural tourism linked to a citizenship approach and the importance of cross-border tourism on an equal footing, for the future of Europe as a major tourist destination.

EUREKA TOURISM

3/11/2011 Brussels (BELGIUM)

The European Consulting Committee of Eureka Tourism gathered in Brussels and invited NECSTouR and ERRIN Network to discuss future cooperation opportunities.

Founded in 1985, to challenge the increasing migration of R&D and industrial innovation to Asian and North-American countries, EUREKA now unites 39 member countries and also counts the European Union as its 40th member. Together, they promote international, market-oriented research and innovation through the support they offer to small and medium-sized enterprises, large industry, universities and research institutes. Within Eureka, thematic networks that focus on a particular technology or business sector are gathered in Umbrellas, such as Eureka Tourism. It is a European strategic initiative and network oriented to the sustainable improvement of tourism, leisure and cultural sectors through the generation of R&D Projects. The meeting enabled the stakeholders to learn from each other and necessary cooperation between the developers of tourism projects and the representatives of regional territories has been underlined during the various presentations.

PRESERVE HIDDEN TREASURES SEMINAR

07/11/2011-BRUSSELS (BELGIUM)

The Peer Reviews for Sustainable Eco-regions Via Europe (PRESERVE) project funded by interreg ivc invited NECSTouR to intervene during the final event on territorial action plans in order to valorize strategies to improve sustainable tourism policies concerning rich cultural and natural resources.

The main objective of PRESERVE is to contribute to an improved effectiveness of regional development policies, specifically of regional polices considering cultural heritage as an endogenous factor of economic development and supporting sustainable tourism. Tuscany Region is part of the partnership composed of 13 European local and Regional Authorities and coordinated by the Assembly of European Regions, The main activities of the project were to exchange best practices and enhance the concept of sustainable tourism by reviewing the regional/local strategy with an adhoc Peer Review method. The project delivered a catalogue of good practices and a Peer review methodology with a toolkit.

BLUE GROWTH - SCENARIOS AND DRIVERS FOR SUSTAINABLE GROWTH FROM OCEANS SEAS ANS COASTS

09-10/11/2011-BRUSSELS (BE)

30 experts of marine research, business leaders of marine economy, and 10 representatives of the European Commission from 6 DGs as well as other stakeholders gathered in a two day Intermediate Hearing in order to present the key-findings of the ongoing Blue Growth study and to discuss about constraints, framework conditions and future policy strategies. Organised by ECORYS, DELTARES and Oceanic Development, the meeting was the opportunity to share cutting-edge knowledge that will enable a better achievement and wider objectives within the future Blue Growth strategy. This long-term strategy is aimed to support maritime sector as whole focusing on existing, emerging and potential activities such as short sea shipping, coastal tourism, offshore wind energy, desalination or use of marine resources. The representative of the Balearic Islands represented NECSTouR and contributed to the discussion on coastal tourism with the perspective of the Regional Authorities and of the Touristic Management Models, insisting on the importance and the necessity to propose a sustainable model of governance of tourism in Europe and to improve social dialogue between the private and public stakeholders.

Think global, act local: digital tools for sustainable tourism

The 3rd Edition of the "Entretiens de Gréoux" organised by the City of Culture Heritage and Sustainable Tourism in the Framework of the ERNEST project is the occasion to do a review of the implemented research, projects and tools for the development of Sustainable tourism, to assess to ongoing activities and to look to the future with innovative ideas. The participants, representing the various horizontal institutions of tourism in Europe and the vertical representatives of the sector will enrich the discussion with political, administrative, entrepreneurial, academic and European inputs.

Social Tourism in the EU: a New Dynamic?

The International Social Tourism Organisation, ISTO (ex-BITS) is organising the next European Social Tourism Forum on the theme: "Social Tourism in the EU: a New Dynamic? Various Stakeholders for Active Partnerships"

On the 23rd of November, the General Assembly will take place whereas the plenary sessions and workshops will be concentrated on the 24th and 25th of November. All the practical information will be available on a specific website.

Ø  Directory of territorial actors in Social Tourism

The Local and Regional Authorities Network of Social and Fair Tourism of ISTO has published the first Directory of Local and Regional Authorities Network for Social Tourism which has been presented the 26th -27th  of May in Östersund (Sweden). The directory provides, for each entity, a brief presentation of the region/province/municipalitiy, the social tourism policy, the actions and programmes implemented as well as European and international projects and partnerships. It also includes some key tourism data, related facts and useful contact details.
