Regional COVID19 Tourism Risk Assessment Model based on Customer Journey by Lapland

The aim of the model is to create a safe travel corridor/bubble for the holiday charter flights, a safe journey for the tourists from their country of origin to the destination Lapland and back home again.  Lapland has been a very popular winter holiday destination for decades bringing thousands of international tourists mainly from Europe and Asia.

During many years of collaboration, excellent business relations based on a mutual trust have been established between the international tourism value chain stakeholders.

Based on this trust and on the shared challenges brought by COVID19, all the stakeholders - tour operators, charter flight companies, airports, ground handling agents, transport companies, accommodation services, restaurants, activity services, skiing resorts, shops - came together in order to create a safe travel corridor to Lapland.

This work was headed by regional Visit organisations in close collaboration with the Regional Hospital District/Infection Unit. The model includes 4-step risk assessment with support for solutions. Each stakeholder makes risk assessment on their own services.

These risk assessments are then combined together on destination level and tour operator level.
