Helping regions lead effective climate governance in tourism

Join us on Monday 8 June from 11:30-13:00 CEST for the first webinar of the LIFE TOUR4CLIMA project – “Effective Climate Governance in Tourism: Key Criteria and Best Practices”. This session will bring together policymakers, tourism authorities, and experts to share practical tools, experiences, and best practices to implement stronger climate governance in the tourism sector.

What to expect from this webinar

Climate action in tourism is often hindered by governance challenges such as a need for stronger cooperation across sectors and levels of government, fragmented data, insufficient resources, and gaps in skills and expertise, particularly at regional and destination level. Regions and DMOs play a key role in addressing these challenges, however, doing so requires breaking down silos and ensuring better alignment between tourism and climate policies.

This webinar will explore what effective climate governance in tourism looks like, highlighting the importance of integrated approaches to climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as enhanced collaboration among public authorities and between the public and private sectors.

A checklist of key climate governance criteria, developed within the LIFE TOUR4CLIMA project, will be presented, exploring how these will help shape future governance and climate action in Catalonia. This will be complemented by two case studies from VisitScotland and Andalusia, illustrating different approaches to strengthening climate governance in tourism at regional level. Together, these examples will demonstrate how collaboration can help address common governance challenges in practice.

By bringing together regional perspectives through the NECSTouR network, the webinar responds to the need for collective learning and coordinated action, demonstrating how interregional collaboration can accelerate more coherent and effective climate governance in tourism.
