Have you had your say yet on the EU Consultation for a new Sustainable Tourism Strategy?

The new strategy aims to build on the 2022 Transition Pathway for Tourism and seeks to make tourism more eco-friendly, digitally advanced, and resilient to future challenges. This new initiative will address key issues such as unbalanced tourism and climate change, and aims to promote smoother cross-border travel, improved digital services, and greener tourism options. The consultation covers 10 topics of equal importance from sustainability, smart tourism, mobility, productivity, competitiveness, accessibility and inclusiveness, and digitalization. It is a vital discussion about the future of tourism.

Based on the outcomes of the consultation, the EC will be proposing concrete flagships and actions in the new strategy with a view to adopting this strategy in the first semester of 2026.

As stated by Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism:

“Europe needs a tourism model that creates value for all, local communities, businesses, and travellers. Our upcoming EU Strategy for Sustainable Tourism will be a key step in that direction. I invite all our partners, public and private, to contribute their insights so that together, we can build a resilient, sustainable, and thriving future for European tourism.”
