TIS 2025 NECSTouR participates in panel on Geopolitics & Travel – How to Lead in a Fragmented World

2025, Seville, NECSTouR’s Managing Director John Fitzgibbon had the pleasure of joining a thought-provoking session on “Geopolitics & Travel: How to Lead in a Fragmented World” – a timely conversation on how politics, perception, and power are reshaping the global tourism map.

The session began with a keynote presentation on TOPOSOPHY's latest White Paper “Politics, Perception & Travel” about understanding how political instability influences traveller confidence and destination reputation.

Hosted by Barry Rogers, Director of Destination Strategy at TOPOSOPHY, John was delighted to join the panel alongside:

  • Joshua Ryan-Saha, Director of Traveltech for Scotland, who shared inspiring insights on AI and digital trust in travel
  • Raquel Capellas, Managing Director at Weber Shandwick Spain, who spoke powerfully about communication, reputation, and crisis preparedness

NECSTouR’s key takeaways:

Geopolitics is now part of the tourism operating environment. Destinations must embed foresight and flexibility into how they plan and promote.

Tourism is soft power. Regions and cities are ambassadors of Europe’s values of sustainability, inclusion, and cooperation even when politics divide.

Sustainability and resilience are two sides of the same coin. In a world of uncertainty, partnership and intelligence are our most strategic assets.

At NECSTouR, we see every day how collaboration and shared intelligence across borders are key to navigating disruption and building a more resilient, value-driven tourism model.

Thank you to the organisers of the TIS2025 Tourism Innovation Summit, Turismo Andaluz, and to Barry, Raquel, and Josh for such a dynamic and insightful exchange.
