The Tourism Department of the Regional Government of the Region of Valencia has produced a handbook for the tourism destinations to support their adaptation to climate change and to take action towards climate emergency.

Visit Valencia is one of the European cities being frontrunners of Climate Action in Tourism, they are already members of the UNWTO One Planet Sustainable Tourism programme and its Global Tourism Plastics Initiative and have also Declared Tourism Climate Emergency.

The city hast set up a Valencia 2030 Sustainable Tourism Strategy including the participation of all the city stakeholders including the temporary and permanent residents. Its most ambitious mission is to become a carbon-neutral city by 2030. Tourism will be a key industry actively contributing to this city model transformation as part of the society solution. One of the first steps has been to apply an innovative digital system enabling to calculate and certify the carbon footprint of the tourist activity. This measuring system will be applied to all the tourism stakeholders to measure their footprint, shows suggestions to reduce it as well as tools for offsetting.

This good practice was presented at the NECSTouR Workshop "UNWTO initiatives tackling the “Greening” transition of destinations".
Check the report and the other members' initiatives presented.
