NECSTouR members' Commitment on Better Places to Live and Visit at the Future of Tourism World Summit

    27/10/2021

NECSTouR joined the Future of Tourism World Summit (26-27 October 2021), organised by the UNWTO, the Advanced Leadership Foundation and the Incyde Foundation of the Chambers of Commerce of Spain and renewed our members' commitment around the shared vision for a greener, more inclusive and resilient tourism.

In a programme which reflected the key priorities of UNWTO and global tourism in general, the focus of the first day was on funding the future of tourism, particularly accelerating the shift towards net-zero growth. On the second day, UNWTO was joined by fellow UN agencies, government Ministers, and public and private sector leaders, in agreeing to seize the opportunity to restart and recover better from the impacts of the pandemic. The Call to Action brings together the solutions and plans put forward during the two-day summit, recognizing the importance of transforming tourism ‘for people, for planet and for prosperity’.

The NECSTouR President Manuel Alejandro Cardenete was invited to bring the Barcelona Declaration "Better Places to Live, Better Places to Visit" as the leading initiative on how culture can contribute in generating unique experiences:

Sustainable Tourism means seeking the well-being of our residents from our local communities.

The NECSTouR answer is in the 5 Principles of the Declaration on Governance, Sense of Place, Holistic Vision on Marketing, Balancing, and Connecting people to people.

This is what NECSTouR regions are working on, transforming this Declaration into Action and making Better Places to Live, to Visit as well as to Work and Invest in.
