EU Green Week Partner Event: Sustainable Tourism solutions to reduce pollution in the Mediterranean area

For the next EU Green Week, NECSTouR is organizing a webinar along with its partners in the Interreg MED programme on June 3rd. The goal of this webinar is to present solutions from a selected number of projects aiming at reducing pollution with an ethical and sustainable consumption of tourism: Ecotourism (DESTIMED PLUS), Cycle tourism (MEDCYCLETOUR), Waste management (BLUEISLANDS) and Water Management (CASTWATER).

The Mediterranean Sea is the first destination in the world but also the most endangered ecosystem. The Sustainable Tourism community have the potential to help the greening of destinations at policy and technical level. Within the Interreg MED programme, the Horizontal Project on Sustainable Tourism supervise 24 different projects funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

MEET Network is a non-profit association supporting protected areas to develop high-quality ecotourism that benefits local communities and conservation. It capitalises on work done in previous EU projects including an ecotourism standard, and monitoring tools such as the Ecological Footprint Calculator, which allow destinations to measure the environmental impact of tourism activities.
