First STAR Cities stakeholders meeting in Kaunas

 

Twenty five community members participated from different Kaunas and Kaunas district areas : community managers, members of Kaunas 2022 program We, the people. Two more meetings (for representatives of the administration of Kaunas and Kaunas district municipalities, Tourism offices) of local stakeholders will be organized this year.

NECSTouR Elected as a Member of the Board of the UNWTO Affiliate Members

Being NECSTouR the European platform for knowledge exchange and project development in the field of sustainable and competitive tourism and being our core members regional tourism authorities working closely with the tourism businesses and academic institutions, this election will give us the opportunity to join efforts in maximizing the expertise among the rich and diverse group of key tourism stakeholders that the Affiliated Members of the UNWTO represents.

First STAR Cities Interregional Learning Session: Study visits, workshop and steering committee

 

The first STAR Cities Interregional Learning Session took place in Rome from 17 to 19 July 2019. The three-day event was hosted by the Lazio Region and was dedicated to study visits, a day of workshop and to finish with, the steering committee.

NECSTouR congratulates the Finnish Government for having chosen to focus its semester of Presidency of the Council of the European Union - from July until December 2019 - around the slogan "Sustainable Europe, Sustainable Future".

 

The priorities for Finland’s Presidency are

EPSI and NECSTouR Establish a Strategic Partnership to Enhance Synergies Between Tourism and Sports

 

NECSTouR President Patrick Torrent and EPSI Executive Director Alberto Bichi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding prior to the EPSI conference in Brussels on the 4-5 of July 2019, with the strong believe that a reinforced collaboration between Tourism and Sports will benefit two sectors which are strategically complementary in the European institutions.

NECSTouR Open Call for a Communication Internship

 

NECSTouR is looking for a motivated individual to join the Permanent Secretariat Team in Brussels in order to support our new strategy 2019 – 2021 implementation.

The internship length is of 6 months minimum (starting as soon as the candidate is selected in the fall 2019).

 

Tasks and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Communication Manager, the trainee’s main mission will be to:

NECSTouR Offers its Reflections on how to Balance Sustainability and Competitiveness in the European Tourism of Today

 

NECSTouR Vice-President, Mr Jan Korthoudt - Director of Tourism at the Government of Flanders – has been invited to give the NECSTouR perspective on Competitive and Sustainable Tourism on the occasion of the Seminar “Tourism in Transition” organised on the 27th of June by the Permanent Representation of Malta to the EU in Brussels.

 

The aim of the event was to explore the realities of the tourism industry within a global context and the current and foreseeable challenges together with the possible opportunities.

NECSTouR Recommendations to the EU Committee of the Regions on how to Address the Impact of Brexit on Tourism

 

Mr José Luis Wagner, Head of Tourism Competitiveness at the Government of the Valencia Region presented on behalf of NECSTouR the network's cases and recommendations on the Impact of Brexit on EU Regional Tourism and the perspective from Scotland, on the occasion of a specific hearing organised by the Brexit Intergroup of the European Committee of the Regions on the 27th of June 2019.
