NECSTouR Offers its Reflections on how to Balance Sustainability and Competitiveness in the European Tourism of Today


NECSTouR Vice-President, Mr Jan Korthoudt - Director of Tourism at the Government of Flanders – has been invited to give the NECSTouR perspective on Competitive and Sustainable Tourism on the occasion of the Seminar “Tourism in Transition” organised on the 27th of June by the Permanent Representation of Malta to the EU in Brussels.


The aim of the event was to explore the realities of the tourism industry within a global context and the current and foreseeable challenges together with the possible opportunities.

NECSTouR Recommendations to the EU Committee of the Regions on how to Address the Impact of Brexit on Tourism


Mr José Luis Wagner, Head of Tourism Competitiveness at the Government of the Valencia Region presented on behalf of NECSTouR the network's cases and recommendations on the Impact of Brexit on EU Regional Tourism and the perspective from Scotland, on the occasion of a specific hearing organised by the Brexit Intergroup of the European Committee of the Regions on the 27th of June 2019.

NECSTouR in a New Partnership to Focus on Sustainable Tourism in Europe


Four leading tourism organisations and academic institutions – CELTH (the Center of Expertise Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality), ETC (the European Travel Commission), ETOA (European Tourism Association) and NECSTouR (the Network of European Regions for Sustainable and Competitive Tourism) have agreed to work together on sustainable tourism and best practice sharing to support policy development in destinations across Europe.

EU Leaders met in Sibiu and made Recommendations for the Future of Europe


With the occasion of the Europe Day, the Leaders of the European Union have gathered in Sibiu to discuss and look ahead to their common future.

MITOMED+ Project Meeting in Marbella


The 12th project meeting of MITOMED+ Project has been held in Marbella (ES), on the 8th May 2019.

The event has been attended by NECSTouR Permanent Secretariat and representatives from the other Members involved in this project – Tuscany Region, Andalusia, Poreç Institute of Agriculture and Tourism and the University of Girona.

Minister Weyts promotes Flanders’ food in San Sebastian


On 2 and 3 May, Minister for Tourism Ben Weyts visited the 5th UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism in San Sebastián, Basque Country. During this edition, Flanders and the city of Bruges have officially been presented as host for the 6th edition of the congress in 2020.

NECSTouR Joins ETOA's Strategic Partner Meeting to Foster Sustainability in Tourism


Last 7th of May, NECSTouR has been invited as a Strategic Partner by the European Tourism Association (ETOA) to brainstorm and plan future actions to optimise the European collective resources and skills in order to lead debate and take practical action in the long-term interests of destinations, tourism and the visitor economy.

Mrs Sandra de Puig as NECSTouR coordinator and Mr Ulf Sonntag as Head of Market Research at the Institute for Tourism Research in Northern Europe of Kiel (NIT-Kiel) presented in Elba Island their recommendations on tourism and sustainable mobility to the destinations managers partners of the CIVITAS DESTINATIONS Project.
