Today, the NECSTouR President, Mr. Manuel Alejandro Cardenete, was pleased to participate to the 20th edition of the European Tourism Forum, co-organised by the Slovenian Presidency and the European Commission fully online and web streamed.
Mr. Cardenete was invited to explain the NECSTouR’s pathway towards the greening and digital transition of destinations. His statement was fully in synergy with the strategic actions presented during the first panel discussion called “EU tourism industry and destinations in driving the transition”, by TUI’s Group, HOTREC, the Slovenian Tourism Board and the Bohinj Destination.
NECSTouR translates its commitment in building more sustainable and competitive destinations’ models as we recover from this crisis, firstly through community building – what is good for residents is good for visitors. We proudly signed the Glasgow Declaration Climate Action in Tourism and will connect it with the EU Green Deal and Tourism Agenda through our climate action plan. With our Tourism of Tomorrow Lab we will support DMOs in transforming data into tourism intelligence.
Mr. Cardenete called the EU to adapt the investments in sustainable tourism to the needs of the territory and not the other way round.
“Europe has the opportunity to lead the behavioural change and enabling framework conditions for new tourism models to flourish. The tourism zero net pathway is challenging and we have less than 10 years to reach our targets. There is a role for all and each of us in this partnership.”
This European Tourism Forum dedicated particular attention to tourism-related information collection and intelligence. The ideal partnerships and conditions to drive digital innovation were also explored.
Therefore Ms. Ana Moniche, Andalusia Tourism Board, raised the voice of the Tourism of Tomorrow Lab quoting the President and offering support to the European Tourism Dashboard.
High level officials representing the EU Institutions accompanied the industry partners, destinations and experts made the programme of this flagship event for the European tourism, which is a key milestone in the process of building the European Agenda for the Tourism of Tomorrow 2030.
