Axis between Europe and Africa and meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, this region has been coveted by many different cultures throughout history and prehistory. The region of Andalusia has a surface area of 87,268 km² and represents 17.3% of Spain. It is, on its own, larger than countries like Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Austria or Switzerland. The diversity of landscapes and geographical terrain gives rise to an array of environments that go from the heat of the Guadalquivir River valley through to luxuriant mid-mountain areas, volcanic landscapes such as the Tabernas desert, and the snow-capped peaks of Sierra Nevada. The Guadalquivir is Andalusia’s most important river and brings life to many areas in its journey across the region. In barely forty kilometers you can go from Alpine mountain landscapes to tropical areas on the shores of the Mediterranean. The coast of Andalusia stretches for almost 900 kilometres and is home to a large number of cities, towns and beaches that are a delight to visit. The whole ensemble represents a range of attractions for tourists that goes from impressive monuments in large towns to typical small villages, which have provided a constant source of inspiration for all kinds of artists. Andalusia today is a modern region with well-developed infrastructure. It offers a warm welcome to visitors and, while conscious of the need to modernise and move forward with the times, it is also careful to take care of its roots and maintain its important cultural heritage and monuments, legacy of the region’s ancestors. Balance of the Impact of the war in Ukraine in Andalucia

NECSTouR president presents our strategic actions on data monitoring during Panoramed event on costal and maritime tourism

NECSTouR President Dr. Manuel Alejandro Cardenete, deputy-minister from Andalucía Region, presented the Tourism of Tomorrow Lab and data-oriented projects in the Mediterranean area during PANORAMED high-level event on coastal and maritime tourism. It was the first public event unveiling our Handbook on How to use EU recovery funds and ERDF 2021-2027 for sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean region.

NECSTouR presidency shares our priorities during the 2nd European Cruise Dialogue

On March 1st, 2022, the Directorate General for Maritime Affaires and Fisheries (DG MARE) organised the 2nd European Cruise Dialogue in Brussels. NECSTouR took part in the event through our president to share our priorities for sustainable cruise tourism management.

Our president Manuel Alejandro Cardenete from the Andalusian Region was invited to represent NECSTouR in this dialogue.

Industry Days, Tourism Spotlight event

On 8-11 February 2022, the fifth edition of the EU Industry Days, the largest EU event focusing on the future of Europe's industries, took place in Brussels and online. The event was an opportunity for key industry players to discuss the progress made and next steps needed to achieve industry's green and digital transitions, while improving resilience.

2nd Pan-European Cruise Dialogue

The 2nd Pan-European Cruise Dialogue will take place on 1 March 2022.

BEST MED Sustainable Path and Cultural Route Model (MED S&C Path)

The MED S&C Path Model further develop an approach to support the sustainable management of Mediterranean routes and paths. It's built upon previous approaches and outputs, such as the platform developed within MITOMED+ (one of NECSTouR previous project in the Interreg MED programme).

BEST MED Seminar on the development of a Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories in the MED

The BEST MED project seminar “Developing a Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories in the Mediterranean. Data management and sharing for sustainable tourism” is taking place on the 16th December from 9:00 to 14:30 CET. As a member of the Interreg MED Sustainable Tourism project and the developer of the Tourism of Tomorrow Lab, NECSTouR is taking part in this event.

NECSTouR Calls for Transforming Sustainable Destination through Data Sharing and Cooperation at BTO 2021

On 24 November, NECSTouR President, Manuel Alejandro Cardenete, addressed the subject of digitalization of destinations for frictionless and sustainable tourism at Be Travel Onlife (BTO) 2021 Conference, organized by the Tuscany Region. This was also the opportunity to meet Tuscan Tourism Authorities and enhance cooperation with our funding Region within the new NECSTouR Board of Directors.

6th International Conference on the Subnational Measurement and Economic Analysis of Tourism (MOVE 2021)

The 6th MOVE2021 Conference has been a dissertation space on tourism where multiple experiences have been shared for the measurement of tourism at subnational levels and its sustainability and then its relevant use by public and private stakeholders for decision making towards smart, competitive, sustainable and inclusive destination and tourism businesses.
